DEACON OF THE MONTH
April: Ed Wilcher
Deacons are an integral part of the church’s pastoral ministries team. They partner with the pastor and church staff to help meet the spiritual and physical needs of church members. They assist with hospital visitations, ministry to shut-ins, bereavement care, and Christian commitment counseling. Deacons also function as servant-leaders and role models who help lead the church in the accomplishment of its biblical mission.
One of the key tasks of the Deacons is to oversee the Deacon Family Ministry. Upon joining DBC, all families and individuals are assigned to a specific Deacon. That Deacon will then be available for them to call upon for spiritual assistance, prayer, and visitation.
The Deacons strive to guard the unity of the church through times of conflict resolution and church discipline. When instances of church conflict or sinful immorality arise which threaten the integrity of the church, the deacons, working with the Senior Pastor, shall have exclusive oversight of church discipline. Biblical principles found in Matthew 18 and other appropriate Scriptures will guide the Deacons in this area of service and the primary approach will be one of redemption and not punishment.
